Almost every neighbourhood in Amsterdam has its own market. From the famous Albert Cuyp Market to the smaller local markets in Amsterdam Zuidoost, you can easily pick up all your groceries for the week at one of the city’s many markets.

But did you know that Amsterdam also has plenty of special markets throughout the week? From antiques and books to plants, vintage treasures and handmade products, you can find almost anything at an Amsterdam market.

Below, we’ll show you where to find some of the best markets in Amsterdam and what you can expect to discover there. Enjoy exploring – and don’t forget to take your time and soak up the atmosphere!

Markets mainly for food and drinks

  • Albert Cuyp Market in De Pijp is the best-known and busiest daily market in the Netherlands. Here, you’ll find everything from freshly made stroopwafels and fish to Surinamese bara, as well as a huge selection of clothing and other products. The market is open from Monday to Saturday.

  • ZuiderMRKT takes place every Saturday on Jacob Obrechtstraat. Around 20 different stalls offer a great selection of fresh, organic products. So don’t forget to bring a large shopping bag and stock up on something delicious for the weekend!

  • Pure Markt is a travelling market dedicated to artisanal food, drinks and a relaxed atmosphere for the whole family. On Sundays, you can find Pure Markt at locations including Park Frankendael, Amstelpark and Beatrixpark. It is a lively market where food lovers will find plenty to enjoy. Make sure you arrive hungry, because there is lots to taste! The products come from local and independent entrepreneurs offering something a little different.

  • Noordermarkt in the Jordaan is famous for its organic farmers’ market on Saturdays, where you’ll find plenty of artisanal food and fresh produce. On Mondays, the square transforms into a lively antiques and flea market.

  • At Nieuwmarkt, you can visit an organic market on Saturdays offering cheese, vegetables and delicious regional products.

  • Dappermarkt takes place from Monday to Saturday in Amsterdam Oost. This multicultural market offers flavours from around the world, delicious delicacies and plenty of products at attractive prices.

  • Finally, there is Ten Katemarkt in Oud-West. This lively neighbourhood market is the perfect place to combine your everyday shopping with some tasty street food. It is also conveniently located right next to De Hallen.

Unique and vintage markets

  • At IJ-Hallen at the NDSM Wharf, you’ll find one of Europe’s largest flea markets and the perfect place to hunt for vintage clothing, furniture and unexpected treasures. IJ-Hallen in Amsterdam Noord has more than 500 stalls and usually takes place every month. Spread across two enormous halls – and partly outdoors during the summer – there is plenty to explore. From clothing and furniture to accessories and items for your home, you can find almost anything here.

  • Waterlooplein Market in the city centre is a historic flea market specialising in second-hand clothing, records and curiosities. It is a great place for collectors and vintage enthusiasts, with stalls selling jewellery, electronics, vintage fashion, books and much more. Browse through piles of clothing in search of that one-of-a-kind jacket or spectacular pair of boots, or discover a unique piece to give your home some extra character.

  • The Maker Market at De Hallen takes place on the last weekend of every month. Inside the hall, in the former tram passage, you’ll find stalls showcasing some of the best products made by Amsterdam-based creators. The market is all about designers and craftspeople selling products they have made themselves.

  • The Book Market at Spui in the city centre is a charming market dedicated to second-hand and special-interest books. The square fills with stalls selling books, prints and posters. Whether you’re searching for an unusual gift, a first edition or a beautiful new coffee-table book, there is a good chance you’ll find something special here.

  • Every Monday at Noordermarkt, you can hunt for treasures at the antiques market. From tableware and clothing to unique items for your home, there is always something interesting to discover. And hungry treasure hunters haven’t been forgotten either! Grab a fresh juice or a Vietnamese spring roll and you’ll have plenty of energy for another round of browsing.

  • The name says it all: the Plant Market at Amstelveld. Every Monday, this square in the city centre fills with flowers and plants. Its 27 stalls are packed with colourful greenery for every type of outdoor space. Whether you have a large garden or a tiny Amsterdam balcony, you’re sure to find a plant that fits your own little urban oasis.
